Melia and I were both undergraduates at Cal State Fullerton when we met, where she completed a B.S. in Human Services and I completed B.A. and M.A. degrees in Psychology. She completed her Masters in Social Work at University of Missouri-Columbia in May 1999. Melia is an advocate for persons with disabilities and has spoken occasionally on the topic of living with a disability and disabilities and healthcare at local Toastmasters and Democratic Party functions.
